Junior Section
Developing and sustaining a strong junior section is a strong belief of the St Andrews Golf Club. It is vitally important that the club is there to provide boys from St Andrews and the surrounding area the opportunity to learn how to play golf, develop their game and play golf in the true spirit that it was intended.
Being a junior member of this fantastic golf club is second to none. With its name and reputation, incredible history, it’s magnificent and unrivalled views overlooking the 18th green of the Old Course and the R&A, make it a dream for any young golfer to be a member of.
The safe, relaxed and friendly atmosphere of the clubhouse ensures that new members feel welcome and can enjoy using the facilities in the club. The juniors have their own room where they can socialise, play on a PS4, watch TV or just meet up. They are also allowed to use the main lounge after playing in a competition providing they are accompanied by an adult.
Membership
Boys from the age of 8 can be become a junior member of the Club.
Any boy wishing to join the St Andrews Golf Club should email either the Junior Convenor at juniorgolfsagc@gmail.com or Victoria Wilson in the office at golf@thestandrewsgolfclub.co.uk requesting an application form
The junior section has its own Captain and Vice-Captain and they play an important role in promoting the club, being role models for other members and work closely with the junior convenor to put forward ideas to enhance the junior section.
Competitions
There is a wide range of competitions for juniors to participate in which are played most weekends so there is plenty of opportunity to reduce your handicap. A member of committee will normally be present at the first tee on competition days to ensure that these run efficiently.
Juniors on reaching the age of 14 can enter senior competitions.
Entry into Competitions
Players can enter competitions online, in the junior room in the clubhouse or by sending an email to juniorgolfsagc@gmail.com
Interclub Matches
The juniors play several matches against other golf clubs in the area throughout the year. These include matches against Carnoustie, Leven, Montrose, Stirling and the New Club.
Coaching
The committee believe that the provision of a strong coaching programme is important in the development of juniors as they are the future of the club.
A coaching programme is offered each winter, to Juniors who support the Club by playing in competitions and events, with the coaching delivered by PGA professionals. This is provided free of charge.
Where possible, individual video coaching is also offered, where professionals will provide instruction, analysis and advice.
Senior members are also encouraged to provide support in the development of our junior section.
The coaching is aimed at covering players of all abilities.
Funding
There is funding available for home club players to support them playing in National and Regional Boys Competitions. For more information, speak to the Junior Convenor.
SALJGA
The Junior Convenor will liaise closely with SALJGA to ensure that club members are aware of latest news, competitions and events.
